Key behavioral grammar:

1. Control as habit. Danu straightens, orders, finishes, anticipates, closes, and corrects. She is uncomfortable leaving a room, conversation, decision, or relationship in an unresolved state.

2. Preemptive power. Waiting is emotionally costly. She may punish or neutralize threats before their intentions are certain and escalate conflicts before others have named them.

3. Conditional mercy. Mercy creates obligation. Forgiveness can include monitoring. Public clemency may also remind the recipient who possessed the power to destroy them.

4. Ritualized distance. Ceremony, titles, controlled approach, and permission structures keep intimacy predictable.

5. Intolerance of peaceful refusal. Defiance can be categorized as enemy action; Kaia’s nonviolent noncompliance cannot. This is why laying Fin down is uniquely destabilizing.

6. Kraethe as reassurance. Danu may glance toward him after deciding, seek confirmation rather than instruction, or visibly settle when he affirms her interpretation.

7. Breakdown as confusion before confession. The strongest collapse is not villainous rage or instant moral clarity but disbelief that the system she obeyed has failed: ‘I did everything right.’

8. One unnecessary human gesture can expose the buried child more effectively than explanation: touching an old object, recalling Aravaen’s word or gesture, or hesitating before an order.

These patterns should remain variable enough that Danu is a person rather than a diagnostic checklist.

Open questions

  • Choose two or three recurrent physical control habits so the motif remains legible without becoming mannerism.
  • What object or gesture, if any, carries Danu's one late unguarded memory of Aravaen?
