One older breakdown draft gives Danu the line ‘The child of stone will rise in power’ and has Kraethe shape her interpretation toward domination. At the climax she recognizes that the prophecy concerns compassion rather than power.
The larger DOG pattern of presented → misread → reinterpreted makes this attractive, but the draft currently over-explains the meaning and risks making Kaia’s moral choice feel prewritten.
If prophecy survives, it should not dictate Kaia’s refusal. Danu may have used ambiguous language to justify choices she already wanted to make; the climax can expose the poverty of that interpretation without revealing that destiny secretly guaranteed compassion all along.
Open questions
- What is the actual surviving prophecy text?
- Who authored or transmitted it?
- How much did Kraethe distort versus merely encourage Danu's interpretation?
- Can the prophecy remain ambiguous after the climax?
