Ma’at and Aegir are rival interpretations of a shared Gaian inheritance rather than simple good-and-evil factions. Ma’at emphasizes relation over domination, distributed rather than concentrated power, restoration, and attention to imbalance. Its durable proposition is that life endures in relation.

Heka’s resistance adopts the name Ma’at from this older tradition. The exact historical mechanism by which the philosophical tradition becomes an organized resistance remains undeveloped. Aravaen is associated with cooperative governance and stewardship, but she should not be treated as a flawless lost moral center.

Under Danu, attention itself can become dissent: noticing what is out of balance, remembering what has been suppressed, and refusing to accept imposed certainty as truth.

Open questions

  • How and when does the older Ma’at tradition become Heka’s organized resistance?
  • What was Aravaen’s actual relationship to Ma’at?
  • How much of Ma’at philosophy predates the Gaerath catastrophe?
