Recovered S&T concepts include harvesting water ice and hydrated minerals from small bodies; collecting plume material from active icy moons; obtaining nitrogen/ammonia and hydrocarbon feedstocks; mining iron, nickel and platinum-group materials from low-gravity bodies; and using deuterium or other fusion-relevant feedstocks where appropriate.

Candidate infrastructure includes orbital tethers, mass drivers, electrodynamic braking, plasma collection, thermal drilling and vapor capture. The strongest cultural formulation is that Gaians did not merely ‘colonize’ the outer system; they cultivated flows and resources through orbital mechanics.

Older claims that such operations would be trivial, or that every resource listed is economically useful, are not canon. Exact engineering and scale remain to be stress-tested.

Open questions

  • How extensive was outer-system infrastructure immediately before the catastrophe?
  • Which resources were genuinely critical to underground Gaerath after collapse?
  • Did any remote infrastructure survive or remain autonomous?
